Stories

What's a Story?

A story is a page of content on your website. Your homepage is a story. Each press release or news article you post is a story. Your email newsletter subscription form and your contribution form are both stories. Your website's RSS feed is a story.

Where Are My Stories?

You can find all your stories in ARCOS by clicking Find Stories in the left-hand navigation.

Creating a New Story

To create a new page of content on your site, you can start from scratch by clicking New Story in the left-hand navigation.

You can also copy an existing story and tweak it if you prefer. To do that, find the story you want to copy and click the Copy button. This will create a copy of the story and take you to the Edit Story screen where you can make any changes you would like.

Editing Stories

To edit an existing story, click Find Stories in the left-hand navigation. Find the story you want to edit and click the Edit button. This will take you to the Edit Story screen where you can make any changes you would like.

A story can only be edited by one person at a time. If someone is already editing a story, you will see the message "Checked out by username" beside the story. If you need to edit this story, ask that user to check the story in. If you really need it, you can go to the Active Stories screen and steal it — but the person who was editing it will lose their unsaved changes.

When you are done editing a story, be sure to check it in to a desk or publish it. Either of these two actions makes the story available for other ARCOS users to edit if needed.

Previewing Stories

All of the green URLs you see in ARCOS are preview links. Click one to preview that story.

Retiring and Deleting Stories

If a page of content on your site is no longer needed, you have two options:

You can retire it, which takes it off the website immediately and moves it to the Retired Stories section. You can keep the story here indefinitely and unretire it at any time.

You can delete it, which takes it off the website immediately and moves it to the Trash. It will stay in the trash until it is manually deleted or the trash is automatically emptied (which may happen at any time).
